Pool Party

Soak up the sun with a pool party

Pool parties are great summer fun. Any back yard with a pool is perfect for the delightful combination of barbecues, music, dancing, sun and warm water.

Pool Party Safety

Hosting a pool party means you’re responsible for the safety of your guests. Keep these measures in mind to protect your guests from common pool party hazards:

  • Don’t allow diving unless your pool is at least 8 feet deep.

  • Running and horseplay are okay, as long as they’re confined to a safe distance from the pool’s edge. A single misstep could lead to serious injury.

  • Keep an eye out for heatstroke, sunburn and dehydration, especially in younger party guests. Children often do not recognize the signs and symptoms of dehydration and heatstroke, and should be closely monitored by responsible adults.

Pool Party Planning

A good pool party is pretty easy to plan. Plenty of food, lots of music, and a nice clean, preheated pool will pretty much cover your bases. That said, a little extra preparation to make sure your pool party ideas hit the mark never hurts.

  • Send out pool party invitations at least two weeks in advance, and be sure to include a rain date since Mother Nature is one guest you have no control over.

  • Hire a DJ or ask your musically inclined friends to make up some mixed CDs if you are going to host a lot of people. Professional DJs have a good idea of what many different age groups like to listen to and have a more diverse selection of music.

  • Have a selection of pool party games for guests to play, such as volleyball, lawn darts, croquet or even bingo.

Throwing a Teen Pool Party

Nothing goes together more naturally than a pool, a summer’s day, teenagers and a party. Keeping teens safe and under control requires good parental supervision and lots of wholesome, fun activities to keep everyone occupied.

Young people tend to be a little more daring, so pool safety should be strictly enforced. Make sure to keep plenty of food, drinks, sun block and music on hand to keep things light and lively.

Throw a Pool Party Birthday Bash

A birthday pool party is perfect for kids born during the summer months. It’s best to limit the number of guests at these events, since large numbers of young children can be very difficult to manage. Keeping the kids party small will help you keep it safe as well. You can also ask the parents of your young guests to attend, so you won’t have to worry about managing all the rug rats on your own.
